April Training

Due to the post-marathon high, I went and signed up for not one, but two, half marathons in Vietnam before I leave.

Not going to commit to any goal for now, although a sub 1:30 would be lovely.

Training

A good month of training across two countries in Asia.

Japan

April started with a wee trip over to Japan. Before going I had a look at the official Parkrun website and saw that there is in fact a Parkrun in Japan.

There are quite a lot in Tokyo and the surrounding prefectures so I picked the closest one to Shinjuku – still about an hour away on the train – and made my way out on Saturday morning. Good thing I looked up times beforehand as they start at 8am over in Japan, rather than 9:30am back home.

A beautiful flat route through a cherry blossom park, with the cooler spring temperatures aiding me to a very respectable time.

The following week I was in holiday sightseeing mode so took a full week off the running. Can be a good thing for the recovery I’ve found.

Vietnam

Got back to Da Nang and back running with Tag again. Some of the track interval sessions were absolutely lethal!

In the final full week of April I got into a really good rhythm and managed to hit 100km in a week, for the first time in ages.

Time will tell if I’ll be able to maintain the high mileage, but I do know there’s nowhere better to be running than Da Nang.
