August Training

Good to be back home and pounding the pavements. A bit of a drop off and not many long runs done but still getting out for a run every couple of days.

This August was my first time going to Strandhill as a supporter during the Warrior’s Run, and it was great craic. It definitely inspired me and I’ll hopefully get a place for 2026!

Goals

Going to recalibrate the goals for the Galway Bay Half Marathon. Not done enough long runs so it’s highly unlikely I’ll PB, but still confident I should get the sub 1:30.

Goal Target Time Vibe
A Goal ~1:27 😎
B Goal <1:30 😃
C Goal <1:35 🙂

Training

A busier schedule than I expected upon returning home, which made it harder to fit in the long runs.

I am delighted to have made it to a few Parkruns though – Naas, Glenfarne, Volksgarten (Dusseldorf), and of course Sligo. So two new letters knocked off the Parkrun Alphabet.

The highlight was definitely Glenfarne, where the McGurrin clan made up the bulk of people competing on the day – yours truly winning the McGurrin cup by being the first finisher from the family (although second overall). It was a great event and good opportunity for us to get together – shout out to uncle Pat for spearheading it!

It was nice to be back in Galway too, running the routes I know so well. The pleasant August weather made it a joy to run out to Salthill and “Kick the Wall”. At the Claddagh, on the way out, I ran by a huge group of runners as part of Connexions Run Club which is class to see – I wasn’t familiar with this club beforehand.

Of course, Salthill is the location of the Galway Bay Half Marathon, so plenty more runs out there in September are in order.
