Another year older and debatably wiser. Slap bang in the middle of my thirties and the official start of my third-life crisis (I set high expectations of myself).
I’m writing this on Ash Wednesday—my birthday often falls in and around Lent—and while I’m not really religious, I hope it will give me some added encouragement—along with my new age—to start living a bit more sensibly. Or to commit to the blog a bit more at the very least.
While thinking of birthday’s past it struck me that this is the third year in a row I’ve celebrated it outside of Ireland. And thanks to my insatiable desire to take loads of pics, along with Google Photos, I’ve got the receipts.
2025
The noise of Bui Vien notwithstanding1, I had quite a quiet start to life as a 25 year old.
2024
Despite falling in March, snow is recurring theme on my birthday. Happened a lot as a kid and very dramatically in 2018 with the Beast from the East. Sure enough it returned in 2024.
Didn’t hang around home long enough to enjoy it as a trip to Manchester with Stenny was on the afrienda (friend agenda). It’s so handy being able to doss over from Knock for a night—not that much different than going to Dublin in all honesty.
Was class getting to see OMD live. Huge fan of 80s choons and they are the inspiration for one of my earliest dances.
2023
Where my solo-travelling began in earnest. Coming down to sunny South America after a work event in sub zero Toronto.
Had a great laugh in Lima, particularly Miraflores. It was a brilliant birthday and a memorable week—just a few days later I was in Cusco watching Liverpool thump Manchester United 7 - 0.
I’d love to recount my trip to South America in blog form so maybe that will happen when I get caught up in South East Asia!

What a way to start a new decade. Mere days after this the world changed immeasurably forever. FUN!
