July Training

Absolutely delighted with my running this month. The cooler temperatures made it far easier in Australia compared to SE Asia.

The highlight was of course the Gold Coast Marathon where I managed to smash even my A goal, romping home in 3:08 and with a negative split.

I’m also very happy that I managed to get to 3 different Parkruns Down Under as well.

Goals

The next race is the Galway Bay Half Marathon. The scene of my first sub-3 hour marathon and a route I’m well used to.

I hope to carry this motivation and momentum through the rest of the summer and run a good race, significantly quicker than the half marathons in Vietnam back in June.

Goal Target Time Vibe
A Goal <1:20 😎
B Goal <1:25 😃
C Goal ~1:30 🙂

Training

The post-marathon stiffness was real so it took a few days in Sydney before I felt fit enough to run again.

As per usual, I got a GoPro TimeWarp run in wherever I went and made it to 3 Parkruns in a row, in spite of the 7am start in NSW and cold in Victoria.

It was cool to do Albert Parkrun in Melbourne with a bunch of fellow Irish/Brits, as the Lions were on tour and that drew a good crowd and was my first Parkrun with over 1000 finishers.

In the final week of July I returned to Ireland, where I got a nice run in around Howth in Dublin to cap off a great month.
