Personal
A fun final month in Vietnam. After the Ha Long half marathon I flew back to Da Nang. The following weekend was amazing as I was part of the group from Tag running that attended the Hoi An retreat. My last few days in Da Nang coincided with the arrival of Storm Wutip which resulted in 2 days of non-stop rain. Luckily it eased up by the weekend in time for the Quy Nhon half marathon.
So a lot of running this month which gave me the opportunity to see some more parts of the beautiful country that is Vietnam.
After Quy Nhon, I made a pitstop in Nha Trang, before returning to Saigon once again. Really good fun here again and I saw a bit more of the city this time (not just Bui Vien street). Missed the Cu Chi Tunnels yet again, but I did meet up with some friends and even a cousin, as well as bumping into a lad I met at an Irish bar in Hanoi – small aul world!
At the start of June I applied for my Australian Visa – foolishly leaving it quite late, so that was a source of some anxiety as I was flying in 20 days. But thankfully it arrived about a week before the flight.
I left Vietnam the way I’ve often left places, in an absolute hape. Swearing to never again drink the night before a flight – all’s well that ends well though as I made it to the airport and slept for a lot of the 8 hour journey. A journey that had no in-flight entertainment!
Settled into Aussie life pretty quickly – the fact I stayed with my uncle in Brisbane made it very handy. Got to do my first Pakrun in Oceania and first rugby league game too, before heading up to Cairns at the end of the month.
Professional
Great news on the professional front, as I have a 2 month contract lined up when I’m home. A friend referred me to an Irish tech company so I’m absolutely delighted it has worked out, and I’m eager to get started!
This month has been about upskilling in Rails and finally getting to some side projects – hoping the experience will be useful with the new role.
I’m also pretty happy with how the blog contributions are going. Haven’t made any changes to the layout in a while – but a Summer Editions is due soon!
