June was a solid month for running. Kickstarted it with the Ha Long Half Marathon on June 1st, followed by the Hoi An Tag Retreat Run on June 7th, and then the Quy Nhon Half Marathon on June 15th – so I’ve been busy!
Very happy with the half marathons, but of course, up next is the Gold Coast Marathon – the full 42km.
Goals
I ran the Da Nang Marathon in 3:27 back in March, so that’s the time to beat.
Not done as much long runs in this training block, so that might be an issue, but the recent half marathons, more comfortable weather, and my typically strong race day mentality should see me through.
The A goal is to finish 30 mins faster than the Chiang Mai Marathon so we’ll see how it goes!

Training
A fair bit of travel done in June but I kept the running consistent. The first 3 weekends included a half marathon long run and I’m pleased to have taken 4 minutes off the time. No mean feat in the Vietnam heat!
It was great to run with Tag again in the first half of the month, and I had a blast with them since I landed in Da Nang. After a lot of warm weather training I was keen to see how it would translate to cooler temperatures, as I made my way to Australia during their winter.
While in Brisbane, I did some easy paced tourist-style runs, taking plenty of pics as I went. The lower heart rate was immediately noticeable – a big difference to the hot and humid SE Asia!
On the last Saturday of the month, I made it over to Stones Corner with my uncle Patrick, to tick an Aussie Parkrun off the list. Managed to do it in 18:40 – fastest I’ve ran in ages – to finish in 6th place.
I then ventured up to Cairns for a few days and got out for some light runs around the town. Into the final week now so taper time!
