A few weeks ago, I was introduced to the concept of the Double Parkrun Challenge by my friend and fellow FBCR stalwart, Daniel Kelly. Safe to say I was intrigued.
In that video, the lunatic runs 2.8k from one Parkrun to another with the aim of completing both before the Tail Walker finishes.
This isn’t really feasible in Galway, but there are two that are fairly close by, so that’s my next challenge!
The Challenge
I’m going to run the Knocknacarra Parkrun and then drive safely back to town to run the University of Galway Parkrun too.
If I do the first one in <20 I think I could drive the 15ish minutes over to the college and do it in ~20 mins. Hopefully there’ll be some slow walkers on the day 😅
University of Galway is a handy one as it’s a flat out and back, so I’ll likely pass the Tail Walker on my way and know what I have to do.
Legitimate?
So, while researching this concept I discovered that this activity is actively discouraged! Which I guess is fair as it could be a bit dangerous if people are speeding over from one to t’other. I’ll take it handy though - rushing is when mistakes happen.
According to this reddit post the system doesn’t allow more than 1 a day, but I still think it’s a decent challenge, and I don’t need Parkrun to ratify it.
The Double
It seems like this was more of a thing back in the day and there are some posts and videos from people who have done the double.
One that I thought was very intersting is the date line double - time travelling without needing to travel at 88mph in a DeLorean. One for the future perhaps.
