Phnomenal Penh

Got the bus 5 hour from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh and arrived around midday. Myself and my friend Zounish then shared a tuk-tuk over to the area we were both staying—close to the Russian Market.

I once again went for a cheap option and oh how I regretted it. But the location was decent at least so once I had the bags dropped I met up with my friend Vanessa whom I met at Nomads in Wonderland the week before.

She previously lived in Phnom Penh so was the expert tour guide—showing me plenty of good spots to eat and we went up to the Riverside area then.

Sun & Sights

Over at the Riverside the sun was setting which resulted in some nice shots. A few days later I returned for a run—a real slog in the heat. I think one day got to 37°, my warmest day on record.

Great sunsets in Phnom Penh

There’s some very impressive buildings in Phnom Penh. Most are over by the Riverside, like the Grand Palace, but while out for a stroll I passed the Ministry of the Interior which was pretty cool too.

Summerhill

When I was first thinking about going to South East Asia I got on to an old friend from secondary school who has made it his home for close to a decade. Hadn’t seen Darren during that time so it was great to catch up.

It’s always great meeting someone who knows the lay of the land! We grabbed some great Japanese food then, as Irish people do, we had a feed of pints. A great night was had checking out Bassac Lane and all the craic there.
