The site has mostly kept the same shape as the default blog template provided by Astro.
But over the past 2 months I’ve added a couple of nifty new features.
Dark Mode
A standard feature in modern day websites so one of the first to be implemented. Just hit the sun/moon icon in the corner for your preferred style.
Light mode
Dark mode
I was an early dark mode adopter with my browser and code editor, but recently moved back to light mode. Just feels a bit easier on the eyes.
Categories
Blog posts are now grouped by category and there is a dedicated page showcasing all the posts with the same category. As can be seen with the Tech category.
Progress Bar
This is something I’ve noticed more and more and really like it. A simple and effective visual indicator showing how far you are through the post.
The bar at the top shows your progress
Read Time
Another common feature on blogs nowadays—it’s handy knowing beforehand what you are getting yourself in for with this read time estimation.
I know the struggle of trudging through a > 10 minute post so hoping to avoid any rambling or tangents myself, like the time I caught the ferry over to Shelbyville. I needed a new heel for my shoe, so I decided to go to Morganville which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So, I tied an onion to my belt which was the style at the time…
With this basic setup—and plenty of posts added—over the past 2 months I’m now ready to properly start into the design, layout, and features of the site. Looking forward to reflecting on all the changes in the Summer Editions!
Thanks to everyone who suggested features. A reminder that you can log issues davs-travels if you wish, or just drop me a message.
