It was really cool to be in Japan – the home of the cherry blossom – during sakura season. I caught the tail end of it, with some of the parks having a number of trees in bloom. Apparently the petals would all have fallen within a week or two.
My hostel was right around the corner from Shinjuku Gyoen which had a great variety of trees, and is a lovely place to go for a stroll.

A Blossoming Interest
Not exactly sure when or why but a few years ago I started getting targeted ads on the Gram for this cherry blossom hoodie and eventually I caved in and got it. Ever since then I’ve had an affinity for them.
The cherry blossom heralds in the beginning of spring, and better weather in general. In the past few years it’s also marked some good travelling.
In 2023 I arrived in Berlin on Easter weekend and managed to get a glimpse of them. Then in 2024 I was at a wedding in South Korea in early April and saw the sakura in full flow.
So I’m delighted to have continued this tradition in the home of the cherry blossom in 2025! Albeit, missing my beloved hoddie this time around.
