After a few wild few days in Vietnam’s biggest city, it’s time to head north to the more peaceful, seaside, city of Da Nang.
Glad to have done at least some sightseeing while in HCMC, although it’s a shame to have missed the Cu Chi Tunnels (thanks to a Category 2 Hangover).
It gives me a good reason to head back there at least!
The Journey North
My 18 hour sleeper bus left Saigon at 3pm. The departure station looked like a bit of a shack on the side of the road and is 40 minutes outside the city.
I arrived an hour early so picked up some treats for the trip and before long had boarded and we were on the road.
The bus was comfy enough but the overall service left a lot to be desired—especially after other buses I had taken up to now. Staff were rude and unhelpful. They also slept in the corridor of the bus so it was a good challenge when I had to navigate my way over 3 of them to get to the jacks at 2am.
But the seats/beds are private at least. The TV didn’t work, other than the time all the screens changed to some movie that the bus driver was watching! I didn’t mind as I had a Thursday Murder Club mystery to get through and some podcast episodes to catch up on.
I managed to drift off despite the rocky journey and by around 7am we had landed in Da Nang, my home for the next couple of weeks.
