Parkrun

My August challenge is a big one: my 100th Parkrun! And for this I thought I’d return to the scene of my very first Parkrun all the way back in 2015.

The Parkrun is one of the best things to happen in my liftime - a free, weekly, opportunity to get out and exercise with a wonderful, supportive community.

Introduced by my sister, I got the bus out to Knocknacarra back in 2015 to record my 1st Parkrun. Drifted out of it for a good while and tbh the effort to get to Knocknacarra was a bit offputting, but I slowly started to get to more in Sligo when I was home.

I kept tipping away over the years and all of a sudden now I’m on #99 - with 9 countries, 24 locations and 17 different letters achieved. Alphabeteer is my next goal!

I often wonder what I’d be like if I kept up running properly in 2015!

It’s been good fun doing it travelling and also getting family and friends involved too. The Glenfarne Parkrun in August 2025 will go down in infamy!

We even got Dad over for a few

I’ve a long way to go though in volunteering. Maybe I’ll take it up when I retire after the Berlin Marathon.
