Two palm trees with the beach and sea between them

Quy Nhon

After saying my goodbyes to Da Nang, I hopped on the train south to Quy Nhon.

Travel by train

A 6 hour journey in a 6-bed cabin, which was a bit cramped even for a small, skinny fella like myself!

The train station is located a bit outside Quy Nhon itself so thankfully the accommodation provided a taxi service.

Tight spot!

Sleeping

Have to give a big shout out to Sông Suối Homestay. A wonderful family run homestay with such friendly hosts, and wonderful artwork throughout. Honestly, it’s one of the nicest places I’ve stayed, and the high Booking rating is well deserved.

A nice nautical theme throughout the homestay

Art by the owner. Really impressed with it

The location was ideal for the run too as it was just a 5 minute walk from the expo area. On the evening I arrived I took a stroll down to the main square and was surprised to see a big concert taking place – tempted to have a drink and a dance but thought better of it with the race looming.

Wasn’t expecting this!

Running

On Saturday morning I returned to the main square to pick up my bib and other freebies. I took it handy for the rest of the day then, knowing I had an early start.

People up early to pick up their pack from the Expo

Funnily enough as I went for an evening walk I met a couple from Sligo, outside a catholic church of all places! We had a nice chat together about our travels and went our separate ways – hopefully bump into them for a drink in Sligo some day.

A quick pray that I run a quick race

An early night and up at 2am for the Quy Nhon Half Marathon.

After the race I strolled up the road to unwind for a bit. With the sun shining I took the opportunity to go for another light run to continue the TimeWarp trend.

Singing

After all the running I took a nice afternoon nap. All the Tag runners met up then over at what seems to be the karaoke district for a night of singing and drinking.

A fun way to unwind after a race!

A really nice way to spend my last night with the gang, and I even treated them to a wonderful rendition of Uptown Girl – hon Westlife!

Had a nice lie in on Monday then made my way back to the train station to head further south.

A bag o’soup for the road
